I need some thoughts and comments...

Sorry I have slacked the past few days...school has consumed my life and today was actually the first day I could actually think/talk about wedding stuff. My mom and I were discussing cakes/favors/flowers today and a pressing question came up. We are expecting anywhere from 150-200 people at the wedding (we both have really big families), so the cake issue is kind of big, no pun intended. My mom had the idea of having a smaller, two or three tier cake for us to cut and serve, take pictures of, blah blah blah and then have the cake person make sheet cake, same flavor and icing, and have it already cut up and ready to serve in the back when we run out of the "for show" cake. I have read on the "Cake Boss" website and Buddy lists this as one of his wedding options. What do you all think? Is it tacky to have a small cake for show for Jason and me to cut and have pictures made with, and then serve the exact same cake from the back? I really cannot see us having a gigantic 6 tier cake. That's kind of overkill I think. I haven't even talked to a cake person yet to see how much it would cost to have a cake made that would feed that many people, but I can't imagine it will be cheap. I have had mixed feelings about the cake for show with the pre-cut same cake in the back for serving. Some say it is tacky and people will comment on how I didn't have a big enough cake (like I really care), but I want everything to be perfect. Give me your thoughts!

I will be MIA this weekend as we are heading to Vegas..Starkvegas that is, for Liza's first football game!  I will post pictures when we get home Sunday night!  Happy weekend everyone!

  1. Thanks for your encouraging comment on my blog!

I think a beautiful small cake for pictures & cutting is perfect. It'll save money and keep someone from standing out there cutting it. I know your wedding will be gorgeous!!

I can't wait to see pics of Liza cheering at her first college game! Have fun:)

  2. That's what we did--had a smaller 3-tiered cake and served sheet cake when it was gone. It worked out great and it does save a bunch.

  3. well...it's senatobia so you know that someone will comment about pretty much anything that you do. so I say play it smart and go the economical route and tell complainers they don't have to eat it if they don't approve. There's no point in having a massive cake. haha

  4. What kind of cake are you thinking of having? I agree with Julie, who cares what anyone would say. It would be much easier to have a sheet cake ready to go than have someone sit there and cut cake for 45 minutes.

  5. I agree with all of the above. They're right...someone will have a comment for everything but guess what... it's your wedding!! Smaller cake sounds like a great idea! Honestly, I highly doubt people will care if the cake they are eating came from the show cake or the sheet cake as long as it tastes good! Go for it. Love you.
